Ann (USA: CA) (2009/07/08): A fast-paced book packed with intrigue, mystery, humor & catchy dialogue. When a school teacher(Concordia) with four female students in tow escape an explosion at an old castle in which they resided for a short period, were met up with a private investigator(Ambrose) on a mission in which they were intricately involved, there the story began. Concordia is a head-strong governess who having been raised by unconventional parents, believes strongly in educating women for the goal of becoming independent upon graduation. Even with her assertive, opinionated & confident mannerisms, she did not come off as annoying or pesky. Though educated, she was portrayed as being innocent and pure at the same time. I enjoyed her peppy, inquisitive personality. When she first invaded, so to speak, Ambrose's room to inquire further the results of his investigation, and noticed his tattoo on his bare pects, I loved how she lost track of her thoughts due to her fascination at viewing her first real tattoo. The relationship between Concordia & Ambrose was sweet & passionate, but there were but two sexual encounters, both humorous in the aftermath. The book read like a good movie.
jacquie (United Kingdom) (2011/05/12): This is the fourth novel in the Vanza series.
MarchRose (Italy) (2012/12/30): from the book preview on the first page: While investigating a suspicious death, private inquiry agent Ambrose Wells finds himself on the grounds of Aldwick Castle - and in the midst of utter chaos. The ramshackle castle is in flames - and a beautiful woman and four young girls are taking flight on horseback. It turns out that the strong-minded Miss Concordia Glade and her four bright students are on the run from a notorious London crime lord who'll stop at nothing to destroy them. Now, their only hope is Ambrose, a confirmed loner with more than his share of secrets - and more than his share of desire for the unconventional teacher. And as Ambrose and Concordia risk everything to bring down a criminal mastermind, they will also be forced to battle something even greater: the steamy passion that threatens their hard-won independence...
