Canary (Canada) (2006/08/19): Very important! You don't have to have read any Austen before reading this book. But, do read the synopses of the novels (in the back ) before starting. And certainly if you are an Austen fan you will enjoy the subtle similarities between the characters here and in Austen's works. It is to be remembered that while we tend to see the Austen novels as period pieces they were much more like Karen Joy Fowler's explorations of relationships - romantic and otherwise.
Xenalyte (USA: TX) (2006/12/29): This book is in great shape. I never got through it, so only the first 40 or 50 pages have been read.
JessicaGreen (USA: VA) (2007/05/16): Interesting enough read...more engaging after the long 1st chapter. This is not a lazy read, the reader is expected to stay on her toes if she's going to make all the connections between Austen & this new cast of characters. Definitely a book after lit-majors/English teachers hearts. Saying that, just WHO was the narrator (when she wasn't being omniscient)? BTW, this book is definitely lopsided to the advantage of the supply-side. (30+ copies available???)
