Jeremy (USA: OR) (2011/06/11): Ken Follett is one of my favorite authors, I actually listed him as one of the ten most influential authors I've ever read on that facebook survey that goes around sometimes -- that puts him in a league with Ayn Rand, William Shakespeare, C.S. Lewis, and Sinclair Lewis. With that said, I have to say that The Third Twin is hands down, my least favorite Follett book. At times, it's hard to believe this book was written by the same author as The Pillars of the Earth and Fall of Giants. The entire storyline seems highly out of character for Follett, and the details are so far-fetched as to truly test the reader's gullibility. Follett generally spends a bit of time delving into the twisted psyche of the protagonist, but in this book, he devotes exceptional energies to exploring the motivations of the loony villian. Perhaps it's partially because I listened to this book on audio and didn't like the reader's voice. But all things considered, I would only recommend this book to serious Follett fans. If you're looking for your first or second Follett read, instead try Jackdaws, Whiteout, Night Over Water, Code to Zero, or Eye of the Needle.
