Description: Product Description
Most instruments must be tuned-up by adjusting one or more controls (e.g. temperature, pressure, lamp intensity, shim coil current, etc.). When only one factor is involved this is relatively easy but when several factors require adjustment the optimization of the instrument is no longer a simple matter. Interactions between the different factors usually make it difficult to achieve optimum performance by changing each factor sequentially. With modern computer techniques, the so-called `single-factor-at-a-time' strategy can now be avoided. INSTRUMENTUNE-UP makes use of sequential simplex techniques in order to vary more than one factor at a time. As a consequence, a highly efficient optimization strategy ensures that each instrument can be properly tuned. To take an example, an atomic absorption system requires four factors to be considered for the optimization of the absorbance of a fixed concentration of calcium. The factors are air flow rate, fuel flow rate, hollow cathode lamp current, and burner height. INSTRUMENTUNE-UP will offer different values for each factor in order to optimize the response. For other elements, instruments, or even instrument models, new optimization may be achieved using INSTRUMENTUNE-UP . INSTRUMENTUNE-UP can be used for a wide variety of laboratory and field instruments. It is user friendly and, in particular, allows the user to interrupt the program and restart it again later. A printer output option is also included. INSTRUMENTUNE-UP documentation includes the source code listing. The INSTRUMENTUNE-UP software package comprises: the program diskette, the source code listing, and the complete manual.
