Charlie, his Maori friend Wiremu, and tagalong sister Elisabeth set out only to go fishing along Jade Bay, New Zealand. Strangely, this morning the tide has dropped so low that the children discover a long lost ship said to have treasure aboard and begin to explore it.
In a rush of boiling water, a wall of green- a giant tidal wave- bears down upon the three friends, snatching up them and the ship and throwing them high into the distant jagged mountains, where Koroua, the legendary wild mountain man, is rumored to live.
There he is. Stooped and wrinkled, with flowing white hair and blackened teeth. Who-and what-is the Koroua? Will he help Charlie, Wiremu, and Elisabeth find their way home through the wilderness? Or will he harm them? |
