Mary (USA: AZ) (2010/08/05): I picked up “One Eyed Cat” at a used book store and took it with me to the DMV. Well the DMV in Southern California can mean an all day experience. The wait went fast as I read, and I was so involved in the telling of the tale my number was called twice before I heard it. I finished this book in a few hours.
It is a story of a young boy, Ned, the son of a Preacher and his ailing wife. Ned is given a BB gun for his birthday by his Uncle. His father feels that the gift is inappropriate and takes it away. But Ned sees his father take the BB gun to the attic. Ned waits for dark, then sneaks up and takes it out for a test run. The story that follows is rich and rewarding; it takes you right into the heart of the young boy. You can feel his pain as he struggles with right and wrong and guilt. I could not put it down till I turned the last page. It is a book about values and working them out. The book was written for children but truly anyone will really enjoy this book.
