Reviews: Cheryl Fox (USA: VA) (2009/06/21):
If you haven't discovered John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series before now, and you like police procedurals and suspense, get this book and then go back to the beginning and read every book in this series! I really like the way the author has developed this characteer and the small group of co-workers, friends and lovers who play important roles in this series. Set in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota, the author vividly depicts the weather and geography of the area. Lucas is wealthy, due to the successful creation of video games and video simulations for police use, and therefore, is relatively independent and allowed, due to his successful record, to pursue cases generally as he wishes. Virgil Flowers, another detective who has worked with Lucas, is now the subject of two books authored by Sandford, cotinuing the link to Lucas, however.

Note: The name John Sandford is a pseudonym for the author's real name, John Camp. John Camp has another series under his own name about a unique character named Kidd, an artist in the St. Louis area who, with the help of a quadriplegic young black hacker, gets involved in unusual cases similar to those handled by John D. macDonald's character, Travis McGee.

Nurture (Australia) (2012/02/29):
I found the beginning of this book a little disconcerting as it chopped and changed a fair bit. However, once I got into the story, I was hooked. The author maintains a good level of suspense throughout and the plot has more twists and turns than you would find in a maze. Interestingly, I was completely unable to pick the culprit until the author was ready for me to do so, which is fairly rare these days. If you like murder mysteries, you will love this book.
