Folie Hamilton has a correspondence with her husbands cousin whos in India. But later, when hubbys dead and Robert Cambourne comes back to England and wants her and her stepdaughter to live with him, she discovers that hes not the man she thought. He may even be mad. Kinsale does a marvelous job of depicting the sick and paranoid mind. It takes a long time for the veils in the plot to shift. I thought several times I had a handle on who did it, but each time was wrong. The novel ends with a sweet exchange of letters. Rated 5 of 5.
