Reviews: Stuart (USA: CA) (2007/03/04):
I think this book is vitally important! Sam Harris has produced a brilliantly honest assessment of the state of mankind's current level of rational development. The book is hard-hitting in its assessment of the danger of religious faith to our chances for success as a species. He argues convincingly that humanity needs to let go of its willingness to accept people's unsupported belief claims (i.e. faith) in the name of tolerance and diversity. His pointed analysis is particularly critical of Islam, but he does not ignore Christian and Jewish religious belief systems. While critiquing organized religion's inherent divisiveness and exclusivity, which has and continues to foment violence, he distinguishes a concomitant need for the kinds of profound spiritual experience (as opposed to belief and faith) that inherently promote our connection to each other and to life itself. It is such mystical and profoundly spiritual awareness that is required to realize a world that promotes the health and well-being of all its citizens.

Marina Bonomi (Italy) (2008/12/30):
So, abolish religion and everything will become rosy? Yes, 'cause Hitler, Stalin and Pol-pot were all religious...

How is it better to kill for politics or to put state, party, ideology, 'the bright future of humanity' or what-have-you above everything else?
