Lost for works to describe how good this book is. A worthy winner of the Booker Prize. It's definitely the best I've read of Margaret Atwood's. Iris Chase is a huntingly memorable character. I found myself skipping back through the book at times to re-read bits to re-experience them and to make sure I hadn't skipped or mis-constrewed anything important.

My teacher recommended this book to me. She swears by it, but I just couldn't get into it. It's a very complex storyline, with many different plots and over/underlying layers. You don't actually understand most of what you're reading until well into the book. It all comes together in the end, obviously. But, I stopped reading it long before I reached that point.

It was an interesting read. A little hard to keep track of if you put your books down for a few days at a time because there are several stories intertwined throughout the narrative. But if you pick it up everyday you should be fine. It is a bit historical, covering the lives of a family who lived throughout the 1900's in Canada, so there are references to the wars, the depression, and other events that impacted the lives of the characters. My personal favorite was just the wit and perspective of the narrator and how she addresses her own old age and mortality, which is not central to the plot but was enjoyable to me.
