This is the first Faye Kellerman book I have read. It's not your typical mystery - you know who the murderer is from almost the beginning. (Even the title shoves you in the right direction.) Despite this, the manner in which the baddie is rounded up is diverting, although at times predictable. I liked Detective Decker's daughter, too. She seemed believable as a college student, finally tired of college life and wanting to get on with the real one.My main complaint was that I found the relationship of Detective Decker with his wife to be annoying. They constantly bickered and then were madly in love again. Also irritating was the constant references to how outwardly religious they were, yet the religion didn't penetrate to purity of heart. There was plenty of swearing, lying, lust, and vengefulness to be had by all and I'm not talking about the bad guys. As a horse person, the idea that Decker kept his horses penned up with no exercise, sometimes forgetting to feed them, really made me mad. It was almost like they were just window dressing - just like some of the other characters who seemed one dimensional.
