Reviews: YiLing (Australia) (2008/03/21):
I love this book! It has a good mixture of suspense, humour and heartwarming moments. The main character and his dog are such likable characters. The ending is disappointing but the rest of the book is so good that it kind of makes up for that.

By the way, beware that coffee is actually toxic for dogs!

I read this after I'd read The Book Thief, so of course it paled by comparison. On its own however, it's a compelling exploration of what can happen when you submit to your fate, and, in doing so, find out what it is you really want.

Excellent book by a great author. I knew I wanted to read more books from Zusak after finishing The Book Theif. This book was really different from the book thief but just as touching. I Am The Messanger is a thought provoking story that takes the reader on a journey as the main character, Ed, goes from ordinary to extraordinary with simple messages that prove to be anything but simple as they cause Ed to dig, not only in the lives of strangers but into his own and the lives of those around him. I laughed with the main character and his friends, I was near tears as some of the messages were being delivered (or nearly delivered) and I stayed at the edge of my seat as I wondered along with Ed who was behind the mission. When I got to the end, however, I was disappointed. It was tied up neatly but unbelievably and doesn't take up many pages to be explained. What I mean is, it's a great story until the last couple of chapters. But I do recommend it, nonetheless.
