Catriona is a hotel employee until one night when she dumps a pot of coffee on Count Vilhena and then tells him off for the arrogant man he is. She is fired and without a job she will not have enough money to paint the winter away. In a turn of events Count Vilhena offers Catriona a job and wisks her away to Malta, an island rich in color and romance.
