The book starts out with Alex returning home after a ten year absence due to her mother's suicide. It then alternates between the present (dealing with her mother's death and her family secrets) and the past (her abusive past and childhood). This book has romance, suspense, and mystery all in one. It contains violence and rape scenes, so reader beware as it is not for everyone. A very emotional ride.
