Joyce Fischer (USA: IL) (2010/09/10): A hunter finds two vehicles, accompanying dead bodies, a trunk full of cocaine, and a briefcase full of hundred dollar notes in the New Mexico desert. Like it or not, he knows the mere fact of coming upon this scene now makes him the hunted. The sheriff is just shy of retirement and it can't come too soon. He'd seen lots of crime in his day drug running, robberies, even murder. Time was there used to be a reason when all was said and done, at least a twisted logic to it. Nowadays, it just seemed pure evil was the only explanation. He's just now dealing with a jail break from the local jail and a dead body in the trunk of the car on the highway. He doesn't know about the hunter, just yet. The question is who is the really the hunter and is there a connection between any of it? Crime novels are not my usual fare, but this one pulls you in, gets you just close enough to each character to be worried about what they will do next. Just when the dots all appear to beconnecting Cormac McCarthy throws in another twist. I couldn't put it down, no matter how scary it got.
