Reviews: lusea (Canada) (2007/03/20):
I mooched this book last week.

I read it yesterday and today.

Its a lovely book. I enjoyed it and felt compelled to read it as fast as I could to find out how it ended, I was not disapointed.

This book was fairly well written and it surprised me in many ways, but I still think it's overrated.

cricket (USA: NV) (2007/09/26):
I don't get all the "buzz" about this book. I found it slow moving and boring. To me, it played out like a made for TV Hallmark movie, which on a boring Sunday night I may find entertaining, but for hours worth of reading I was bored pretty much from beginning to end. The only reason I kept reading was because I heard it was such a good book, and I kept waiting for the good part. Every night I would be determined to finish the book and I'd get 20 pages in and fall asleep. I'm glad I finally got through it. I understand how there's the themes of mother/sister/womanhood, but I felt this book has been done before by other BETTER authors. I think it would make an interesting movie, but for such a hyped up book I was really disappointed.

shan (USA: VA) (2007/10/31):
I tried to read this book it was a bit too slow for me I just couldnt get through it

SouthernYankee (USA: TN) (2008/01/21):
It was a sweet story, and, yes, it's been done before, but it had a good twist to the storyline and the characters were interesting and entertaining. I liked it.

Rolanda (USA: VA) (2008/07/11):
I had planned to read this book for a long time, but my "to read list" was put on hold due to having two babies in two years. Anyway, I really am glad to finally say I read it and I loved it. I was sorry to put it down and be through with it.

sparkletree (USA: NJ) (2008/07/24):
I really enjoyed this book.
It was a quick read but very satisfying.

Cynthia (USA: FL) (2008/10/05):
I didn't think I'd like this book, so I avoided it for a while. Curiosity got the better of me so I finally read it and enjoyed it. It's an odd little book, but turned out to be a good summer poolside book.

crazeeblaze (USA: OH) (2008/10/25):
what a wonderful story. cry, laugh, real life. very, very good

anne (USA: HI) (2008/10/27):
Loved it...hope the movie doesn't ruin it

jbatson (Canada) (2008/11/03):
I just couldn't get into this one. I read most of it ... but I really had to push myself to read it ...

jewlzzz (USA: TX) (2008/12/23):
I loved this book! It was a very easy read... some very poignant moments and some great quotes at the end. Different from your run-of-the-mill novel. Highly recommended.

LoriJo352 (USA: IA) (2009/02/16):
I enjoyed this author's writing style very much. I found her choice of words and the creativity in her descriptions very surprising and delightful. I also enjoyed each one of her highly developed characters. I read the book first, then saw the movie, and I was satisfied that the movie version mostly stayed right on target with the book, but as usual, the book was better.

calin (Romania) (2009/09/30):
ilike it

Peaceopi (USA: MS) (2010/02/20):
This book was very easy to read and very easy to understand. Although I'm sure a literary swat team will be sent to my home to exterminate me, I have to tell the truth. It really wasn't much of a story. It was actually rather trite and more than a bit silly.

Joyce Fischer (USA: IL) (2010/08/09):
How can bees contribute to personal independence and self identity? Each bee in a hive has its place, but do the decisions we make determine our place in life. Sue Monk Kidd leaves us lots to consider in her intriguing book, The Secret Life of Bees.

mockingjay16 (USA: VA) (2012/06/21):
Loved this book! I even got the movie, wasn't as good as the book! But, overall a great story!

Janet Hunter (USA: NJ) (2014/12/20):
Enjoyable reading, well written, I like her phrasing.
