Jo (United Kingdom) (2009/01/18): The story was interesting, but the writing style was not to my taste. Easy read, finished in two days.
tennantfamily (United Kingdom) (2010/02/10): I was disappointed with this book. I was not engaged with the characters, learned nothing new from it and found the monologue style distracting and irritating. I have read reviews on Goodreads that are largely polarized to the extremes, and whilst not, to my taste it must be to others' as it was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize in 2007.
Angela (United Kingdom) (2011/03/07): I loved this book. I spent a very enjoyable Sunday reading it in its entirety because once I started, I couldn't put it down. The prose is beautiful, almost lyrical - it just flows so well. It draws you into the conflicts of identity and loyalty which are at the heart of the novel. A truly exceptional piece of fiction.
