Reviews: Marie (USA: TX) (2007/02/15):
This is an amazing book and not easy to find ! It shows what life was like for women and scientists during this time. Women had few options, they were sold to whomever or wherever the parent could manage. Scientists were monitored by the church and sanctioned by them if they crossed nay boundaries. He had 2 daughters but one was a treasure to him and the letters she wrote to him are the basis for this historical novel - If you enjoy reading Stone or Gregory you will love this too.

Diane P (USA: NC) (2008/07/25):
UGH! I thought this was going to be so much better than it was. I guess maybe I thought it was more of a historical fiction novel, with an actual story to be told. Instead, it's the life of Galileo, told in the manner of a college history textbook, and his annoyingly fawning daughter, who addresses her father as things like "Most Illustrious Lord Father." I don't know about anyone else, but letters to my dad from summer camp never started like that. I couldn't even get through the whole thing, although I got through the majority of it, and that's practically unheard of for me. Maybe I just came in expecting something different, but don't get this book if you're looking for a story.
