This novel is a challenging story of a marriage,a murder, and the thoughts of a deranged mind. If you like O'Brien's other books (...Cacciato; The Things They Carried)and you are OK with disturbing events, you will enjoy this book. Sometimes (chapters called "Evidence") O'Brien uses historical and imagined quotes to show how war experiences throughout history have fractured people's morals and shattered consciences. Given the rising number of American military veterans with PTSD, this novel is as relevant now as it was in 1994 when it was acclaimed by the NY Times Book Review, Time magazine, and the Society of American Historians.
