littlejohnuk (United Kingdom) (2011/03/17): I said that I was waiting to finish Patterson before reading Harris. The difference is stark. Patterson is like going to Pizza Hut where you know the manager - Harris's Fatherland was akin to going to Carluccio's with no expense spared.
I probably won't remember what went on with `The quickie` - `Fatherland` will stay in my DNA forever just like Orwell.
It's an extremely well-crafted mystery wrapped in a totalitarian state. While you read it you're there walking in his shoes - experiencing Totalitarianism and its boundaries. You finish with the thought of what the psychological roots are of Totalitarianism.
