soniaandree (France) (2007/03/16): The title says it all: the book is mainly a selection of poems for people to read and/or work on, with a few ideas thrown in. His book on Literature is of a superior quality, although centered on American Literature rather than worldwide. Instead, as a Literature student, I found James Fenton's book to be THE book for Poetry, discussing each type and styles (ISBN 0141004398). After using this latter book, you can then apply what you just learnt to the poetry you study or read. All in all, James Fenton's book does help a great deal for Poetry essays, but I wouldn't use DiYanni's one: too much of a collated work, not enough discussions and explanations of basic poetry principles.
