This book was completely awful.
I'm hoping it was just the translation that made this read like a child's introduction to spirituality. The unimaginative story was strained through repetitive instances of the author hitting you over the head with basic spiritual concepts such as being one with the Earth and communicating with your heart.
I don't understand why this book is so popular, or why it has "changed millions of lives," as it states on the back cover. Humanity makes me sad when I read books like this.

This book was definitely not what I expected. I had expected some kind of allegory or mildly allegorical fantasy, but the truths Coehlo tries to convey are simply stated instead of shown or implied. It was mildly entertaining, but trite and childish. Definitely not one I would recommend or read again.
