Dandy in the Underworld 'One of the funniest, strangest and most revolting memoirs ever written' Sunday Times Full description
Reviews: morpha (USA: OR) (2008/01/03):
Horsley proves that the best person to make fun of is yourself. He laughs his way through innumerable abuses and blunders. Meatphorically, Horsley repeatedly trips over his own dick and falls flat on his face, only to rise once again sporting a bloody grin.
Horsely's prose is so edgy, it made my teeth ache to read it. The book begins with: "When Mother found out she was pregnant with me she took an overdose. Father gave her the pills. She needed a drama from time to time to remind herself that she was still alive. The overdose didn't work. had she know I would turn out like this she would have taken cyanide." The book ends with: "There is a time in every person's life when they realize they adore me. Yours has come."
Horsley actually makes the story of a rich spoiled brat who is eternally preserved emotionally in childhood fun and interesting to read.
The tale bogs a bit in the middle, and skips over too much near the end, but is just as fun as Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
