Regina (USA: OR) (2008/03/17): I was hugely disappointed with this story. At first, I thought it was rather fresh, although very descriptive, but then it went on and on (good grief) and I really never felt a love connection between Colin and Madeline. First and foremost, it was a mystery with a bit of romance rather than the opposite. After her previously disappointing trilogy (Beauty and the Spy, Ways to be Wicked, etc) I was really really hoping things would improve(maybe she was in a writing slump?) I can't possibly understand how her second installment will be connected to the first because none of the characters were truly interesting.
sheareader (USA: VA) (2010/05/27): Wow! My opinion of this book is the opposite of Regina's! I loved it. This book inspired me to search for others by the author. I just finished my 2nd and I am really impressed. Far superior to most romance novels. The author can really write. The historical details are well researched--and the love scenes are hot!
Iris (USA: TX) (2013/04/21): Fun book to read. Good start of the series. Love the description of the characters' interaction. I find that Long's forte. Whenever she puts enough action into her books I can't put them down.
