Feature requests : new features you'd like to see at BookMooch

re: automatic request feature needed

I am a member of both BM and PBS, and it seems to me that each has its benefits and advantages, different from the other, and that trying to make them identical could remove some of the good features from either one.

re: automatic request feature needed

I'm happy with BookMooch the way it is. I think of it as being like shopping in a used bookstore - if I'm the first customer to spot a book that's just come in, I get to buy it. If someone else responds to an alert first, well, they were logged in at the right time and I wasn't.

re: Audio books

Sarah - I like that solution a lot. Melanie sent me two excellent links that bring up a lot of audio books on BookMooch.

re: Audio books

Thanks, Melanie, but I've tried the method with using the Browse button, and all I get is the same stuff I've seen many times before, some of it not even audio books. I've found more audio books for my mother by looking at the inventories of individual members whose books I'm mooching, and usually it's things that didn't come up at all by using the Browse button. That's why I'd be pleased if the database could somehow link the info farther down the Details page where it specifies that a certain book is the audio version, and put that in the title line. It does that for some books, but clearly not for all. I've got a few audio books in my own inventory that don't say "audio" in the title line but do have it in the book details. I could hand-enter them with "audio" after the title, but other books I've done that way don't seem to get mooched.

re: Editing forum posts

Thanks, Sarah! Now I don't have to put up with my typos that always elude me until I've posted the message.

re: A way to offer Bonus Points for Wishlisted Books

Thanks, Heather - the possibility that the recommendations here are somehow generated like the weird ones that pop up every time I log on to Amazon makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, known as, 'Hey Amazon computer, I wouldn't have that book in the house if it were given away free, and I certainly would never read it.' I also got all the Twilight books included in my BM recommendations, and like you, I'm not at all interested in them. Some rules-of-grammar books were also on my BM recommendations list - eh?

re: A way to offer Bonus Points for Wishlisted Books

Somewhat off-topic: does anyone know how the recommendations are generated? I just had a look at mine, and 9/10 of what's there bears no relation that I can see to anything in my inventory, on my wish list, or that I've mooched. Just curious.

re: Wish list feature

Thanks Aude -
I didn't realize I could do that. I've set it to 50 per page, and the cruising through the list goes much faster. Maybe tomorrow I'll go wild and set it to 100 pr page - oooh!
