re: Doom & gloom?
True for Canada as well: domestic has always been more expensive. But that is evening out since they have increased the international rates: over $18 for 2 books to Israel surface mail. This translates to over $3 a point which makes books for me to mooch cost over $9. Only a deal for rare and hard to find. I send about three times a year now mostly when I am planning a trip over the border unless to special mooching friends.

re: Doom & gloom?
P.S. and slightly off topic. The wiki has been hacked again. Could someone with experience please restore the earlier version? Thanks (I'll cross post this in the discussion forum). ETA: and it's been fixed! Thanks bookarts

re: Doom & gloom?
John has mailed books to me in Canada, although he doesn't send bookmarks and cards to us. The point change made mooching uneconomical for Canadians and we have dropped to less that 600 members when we were nearly 2000 before the change. With the increase in postage rates and fewer members sending internationally, we are usually relaying on a wonderful group of Bookmooch angels and a few mooching buddies to make it worthwhile to continue. I personally am posting books to my inventory and sending once every few months now. I used to spend $50-$60 on postage every two weeks.

re: Doom & gloom?
John, Thanks for checking in. a) Since you can't personally change the postal systems of all our countries to make them make more sense;) perhaps there could be some information pages about the best way to mail books domestically as well as internationally for the top ten or so countries represented here. Perhaps this might help people realize that sending internationally is not as scary (or expensive) as they think. b) When accounts are "vacationed" after a very long period of inactivity, is there some way their wishlists could be hidden so the wishlists are a more accurate reflection of how many active moochers are actually looking for a book? c) Add the ability to put a feedback comment on books reported "lost" (since this is occasionally done in error). d) Some kind of incentive program or contest for bringing in new members?

re: Time Magazine mentions BM
@Mark, if the sender goes to your bio page they can press the "smooch" button. This will transfer a point from their account to yours. Alternatively, the sender can go to "Charity" from their member page and give you a point from there. I'm glad that your problem seems to be resolved.

re: Time Magazine mentions BM
@Mark, Since you marked the book "received" the sender can not go back and reject or cancel the mooch. It is in both of your transaction histories and can't be changed. What you can do is go back in the transaction details and change the feedback to reflect what actually happened, and I recommend you do that to help future moochers.

re: Time Magazine mentions BM
@Mark. You can't undo a "received". All you can do is change the feedback (to 0 or -1) and indicate the book was never mailed. You can then mark the correct one received with a positive feedback. You could try contacting tech support to see if they can "unreceive" the book for you, but I'm not sure if they can.
