re: Book 1 of 2... new feature on Pending page

Please can this be updated?

I have already posted a book to a moocher and marked it as sent. She has now requested a second book which is showing as 2 of 2. This feature is only useful when sorting out books which need to be posted. Otherwise it's confusing.

re: BM Birthday today: 5 years!

Congratulations - Bookmooch is a wonderful way to recycle books. I have never had so many books to read. It is wonderful to have a site where you can send to and receive from all parts of the world.

Royal Mail is probably very happy that you exist, although my postman must sometimes regret my mooching sessions!

Thank you

Gill

re: Followup to points discussion

And please can we have a feature which shows if any of my save for later/wishlist books are in someone's inventory.

Many people (especially those on ask me) are asking for multi mooches but searching huge inventories puts me off and often I decide not to mooch.

re: Followup to points discussion

i agree that something needs to be done about all of the inactve accounts.

I also belong to a UK swapping site. I list here first and if a book is wishlisted here, I do not list on the other swapping site. If all of the wishlist accounts are inactive then this is a waste of time.

As the other site has provided a lot of BM members with wishlisted books (I actively sought them)then I want to keep putting books into whichever swapping system has a reader who wants the book.

Please, please can we also have a regional level. I have mooched books from the US, listed them and they are then mooched from the US and by BM members who do not send internationally. This does not make economic or environmental sense. I am not proposing to lock books in Europe, but perhaps regional groups would mean that more people would be willing to send internationally.

re: Coming: 3 point intl mooches

Personally I have no problems with 3:3 as I think that the 2 values should be the same. I do think that we need a proper angel mooch program where the moocher has to spend an extra point which gets given to the angel. It should not have to be on an ad-hoc charity basis

However, please can you look at a 2:2 as well. This would have to be based on where the person is, but there must be scenarios where it is cheaper to send to a closer country than half way around the world.

It may be that this will encourage more "local" mooching ie within europe or within North America.

This would also need some more Send to options.

re: Coming: 3 point intl mooches

I also fail to understand how this will help angel mooches. The angel moocher will be 0.9 points out of pocket each time they act as an angel.

I personally would be prepared to pay an extra point to get a book angelled.

The angel network will disappear unless the extra point is supplied

re: Followup 2: intl mooch ratio change

It's interesting how differently people genres of books and gluts of titles. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Popularity tends to vary from country to country. I also belong to readitswapit in the UK and for several years I have actively sought books which were wishlisted on BM. I have lot count of the numbers of copies of Kite Runner, Thousand Splendid Suns, Change of Heart and House at Riverton I have got and have been snapped up by international moochers, mostly in the US.

Readitswapit is a 1 for 1 swap, so the other person needs to want one of my books as well. If someone on there wants one of my books but I do not want to read any of theirs I see if any of the are wishlisted on here as I then ultimately get rid of a book. Space is a premium for me which is why I have been doing a 3 for 2 for ages. Yes, postage is by weight from the UK, but posting 3 books together is still cheaper than 3 singly.

By doing this I've made space and amassed a lot of points, so if anyone in the UK wants to do the same you will find 10s of copies of those books above on readitswapit! They have a glut but Bookmooch has a dearth.

I've been spending my points by asking for US angels to get me books landlocked in the US. Please, please can we have a wishlist feature which shows books which could be angelled. I had to open each item in turn to see if there were any copies which could be angelled v no copies at all. I specifically chose ones to be angelled by people in the US but I know that there were some in the Philippines - to find those again would mean opening each item again :-)

I've also listed papercraft magazines which are snapped up by US moochers. They are no cheaper to send than books, but according to one lady "they are way better than ours!".

re: Followup : intl mooch ratio change

I am puzzled as to why the ratio and points are crossing over.

The ratio of books sent/mooched should be just that - books and not points. Where you mooch them from/send them to is up to you as this is then down to points.

However, I do believe that points needs to be 1:1. It should cost the same to mooch as you receive to send and the 0.1 for listing and receiving should be compensated for by adjusting the mooch values to 0.9.

re: Points policy change thoughts

One thing which is affecting wishlists and making them bigger than they need to be is a bug. If you mooch from your wishlist, it does not always remove the book from your wishlist. I recently listed 3 books which I had mooched and were still on my wishlist/save for later.

This has happened to at least one other moocher that I know.

re: Points policy change thoughts

What about changing wishlists to show books that would be available to an angel?

Then the moocher can select that they are looking for an angel for a book - this would cost them a point. This could then feed a dynamic list available to all angels to peruse. The angel would get the point if they mooched the book which would make it point effective for an angel.

The mooch should show who you are angelling for - this makes it easier to reserve the book for the person when you receive it. I often have trouble remembering who I mooched a book for and have to search emails. If it was simpler for me (and I got the point it costs me to mooch) I would angel mooch more often.

The points per member and the books per member analyis is interesting. It would be nice to have the points per member broken down into those who will send internationally and those who do not.

I suspect that those of us who will send have more points than those who do not - basically because we have in effect "paid" for those points in postage.
