Bio:
PBP is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3)organization that exists for one purpose --> to send free books to prisoners. We have been doing it since 1972. Books are crucial to the political, spiritual & educational development of all people. Education is a powerful tool that greatly reduces the chances of inmates returning to the prison system after their release.

What Happens to the Books We Mooch?

We love BookMooch and the generous BookMoochers who share their points with us! We use these points to find high-demand/low-supply books. Anecdotal evidence tells us that the books that we send into prisons are read by 25+ people before they reach the end of their useful life. The books you send and the points you share with us are greatly appreciated by many, many people!

What We're Mooching

We have a constant need for books on the following subjects:

*** Please Note: Generally speaking, because of strict prison regulations and increasing mailing costs, we only accept PAPERBACK books. Sometimes, however, we do cherry-pick specific hardcover titles. Also, because of prison regulations, books need in GOOD (OR BETTER) condition. No stains or stickers. We can not use books with spiral or metal bindings. ***

• GED Preparation: Basic Math / English / Science.
• Reference: English or Spanish/English dictionaries, thesauruses, & almanacs.
• Spanish books (of any genre).
• How to start a small business or general computer manuals.
• Trade Skills: woodworking, automotive, plumbing, electronics.
• Religion: Bible concordances/dictionaries, Kabbalahs, Islam/Qur’an or non-mainstream, such as: Wiccan, Paganism, & Buddhism.
• Spirituality & New Age: psychic, astrology, numerology, crystals, occultism, or magick.
• Ethnic Studies & History: African-American, Native American, Mexican, Puerto Rican, or Egyptian studies.
• Gay / Lesbian / Bisexual / Transgender studies.
• Health, yoga, pilates or any exercise w/o equipment.
• Hobbies: how-to-draw, Art, chess, sports, or music.
• LARGE-PRINT books (of any genre).
• Fiction: sci-fi/fantasy, westerns, or urban fiction only.

Know Someone in Prison?

We also hear from many BookMoochers who know someone in prison. We would be happy to send them a book or two if we are able to send to their prison. We send to most prisons, except for those in: CA, MI, NV, TX and a few individual facilities. Write to us and we will tell you if we can.

Note: We are located in Quincy, MA (outside of Boston) and are not the same organization as the Prison Book Project in Northhampton, MA.
