The Great BookMooch Christmas Card Exchange 2009
Thank you for joining the Great BookMooch Christmas Card Exchange 2009!

More information at the LibraryThing BookMooching forum.

LOCAL MOOCHERS (Philippines):
  • YOU HAVE TO MOOCH AT LEAST 2 BOOKS, PLEASE. Courier rates have gone up so single mooches will NOT be entertained (sorry!). Only regular-point mooches for the 2-book minimum, i.e. books/magazines/cards marked as 'FREE' are not included in the 2-book minimum...but you can mooch those as the free items. :)
  • New to BookMooch? Click here for BookMooch tips and other information.
INTERNATIONAL MOOCHERS:
  • Books will be sent via SURFACE MAIL (2-5 MONTHS, 6 MONTHS MAXIMUM).
  • If at 3 months the book you mooched hasn't arrived yet, please don't mark it as 'LOST' yet. 6 MONTHS is the standard waiting time for international surface mail and NOT 3 months. Thank you for your patience!
  • Multiple mooching is welcome and may be required if you are mooching only one book that is too heavy. I may ask for a second mooch (stated in the condition notes) to offset postage costs. I hope you'll understand. This is the only way I can continue to send worldwide.
  • I can mail books WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO. I SEND WORLDWIDE!
  • See Shipping Schedule and Bio for more details.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  • ALLERGY ALERT! I have a cute, little dog in my home who likes to explore and take naps in my study/library.
  • No smokers, but I get my books from different sources, so no guarantees.
  • BookMooch Bookmarks are FREE for international moochers and 2-for-1 for local moochers. Check out my inventory! Send me an email if they're gone by the time you get here. I will list more.
  • GIVE to the Quezon City Public Library (Pasong Tamo).
  • I won't be able to provide BookMooch Angel services for now due to a heavy workload.

Bio:

Patti

Sometimes I feel like a squirrel hoarding acorns for the winter. I just keep hoarding and hoarding books. I can’t help myself. I love being surrounded by books! My TBR pile is growing exponentially by the minute and I’m having the hardest yet most enjoyable time making a dent in it. A good thing about having a mountain of books is I can always find something to read!

I am a 29-year-old booklover from Quezon City in Metro Manila and a volunteer at the Quezon City Public Library - Pasong Tamo branch. I also manage the BookMooch account for the library (visit us here).

I love books (of course!), dessert, mah jong, paper engineering, macro photography, board games, blank notebooks, pop-up books, Italy (although I've never been) and the Italian language, Geisha, bookmarks, quotations on books and reading, postage stamps, airmail stamps!

I collect bookplates (to use or just to look at), bookmarks (I can't get enough of 'em!) and playing cards (novelty, city, odd shapes and sizes, Bicycle variations, even vintage art cards that are missing suits).

I am offering extra points for very good/excellent copies of the following books:
- Kathryn in the Court of Six Queens by Anne M. Abbey
- Love The One You're With by Emily Giffin (HARDCOVER only, US edition-green cover)
- The Know-It-All by A.J. Jacobs (HARDCOVER only)
- Harry Potter series (1,5,6,7) by J.K. Rowling, Italian Language edition (preferably HARDCOVER so they can match my other Italian HP books)
- Goong by SoHee Park, volumes 2 to the latest, English Translation
- Ilsa by Madeleine L'Engle

Give to the Quezon City Public Library

ANGEL REQUESTS: An Angel book will be sent via Surface Mail as soon as I receive the book. A second mooch will be very much appreciated, especially for books over 220 grams or 0.49 pounds. Thank you!

If you are a fan of Philippine Literature or books in Tagalog and are having trouble finding a certain book in your part of the world, then let me know what you are looking for. I'll see if I can find a copy on sale or at secondhand bookshops.

If you also want a postcard from the Philippines, complete with postage stamp and postmark, send me an email with your address, and I'll mail you one! If you want it unmarked and in an envelope, I can do that, too!

I WON'T BE ABLE TO PROVIDE BOOKMOOCH ANGEL SERVICES FOR NOW DUE TO A HEAVY WORKLOAD. THANKS FOR UNDERSTANDING.

ELSEWHERE

Facebook: I use it mostly to connect with BookMoochers all over the world. Add me as your Facebook friend (even if we've never had a BookMooch transaction and you're just passing by my bio), but let me know that you're from BookMooch so I'll accept!

You can leave a quick message for me right here! Please put your BookMooch bio URL on the 'email/url' field so I'll know who you are and where to contact you.

BookMoochers Pilipinas on Shelfari: If you are in the Philippines, please join us. It's our very own forum for Pinoy BookMooch members. Go through the discussions to find out about the best local and international shipping options, BookMooch tips, promos, contests, and when the next BookMooch party is! All you need is a Shelfari account (it's free!). See you there!

Books are sent via Surface Mail, which takes 2 - 6 months. Please do not mark books as 'lost' without contacting me first.

As stated in the Wiki regarding the standard waiting time for mooches: "If you have requested a book, and it has been marked as sent, but you have not received it in the time expected, then in the first instance please email the person sending the book...Because the delivery times can vary wildly, the standard wait time is 8 weeks for a domestic mooch, and 6 months for an international mooch."

In the Philippines and new to BookMooch? Email me your questions and I'll help you feel more at home!

Ask me anything about shipping options (local and international, courier or post office services, proper packaging), BookMooch features (BM Angel Network, smooching, BM journals, etc), BookMooch etiquette, and anything else. I'll be happy to help!

I can email you PDFs of local postal rates, international airmail rates, international seamail rates (not all POs have this service, though), and links to courier rates and contact information (Xend and 2GO).

Join me also at BookMoochers Pilipinas on Shelfari and BookMoochers Pilipinas on Ning!

TIPS FOR BOOKMOOCH NEWBIES (to get you started!)
  1. Mail books within the Philippines first, and then build up to international postings when you're ready.

  2. Start small. Add books to your inventory a few at a time so you are not overwhelmed with demand (should your books be highly wish-listed ones). Add books by ISBN. Make sure the cover, binding, and edition are correct. If not, mention the difference in the condition notes.

  3. Send your books promptly. A delay of 2 weeks or more (for newbies) is not against the rules, but is kind of frowned upon. Send fast to build trust within the community. Once you are a regular on BM, you may delay sending, but do it within reason. If you can't send the book right away, don't list it yet.

  4. Under condition notes, warn people if the book is damaged, really old, musty-smelling, has spots/stains/tears/yellow or brown pages. If it only has normal reading wear (creases on spine), is in VG or like new condition, let us know, too. Here in BookMooch, we don't expect brand new books, but we do like to know what we are getting. See BOOK CONDITION & GRADING TERMS here.

  5. The safest way to send books within the Philippines is via courier. More often than not, packages are lost when sent via post office. Couriers you can choose from: 2GO, Xend, LBC, Air21, JRS Express, etc. (Some couriers can pick up the books at your residence/office.)

  6. Send international mooches at the post office. Courier rates are too expensive for international mailings. Try to send your books via Seamail/Surface Mail, which is way cheaper than Airmail. However, seamail can take 2-6 months, so do advise your moocher regarding the waiting time. Also, not all POs have seamail. Email me your location and maybe I can help you find the nearest post office that offers this seamail service.

  7. Package your books really well! Water-proof them, too. Those courier pouches, although plastic, aren't water-proof! Put books in a plastic shopping bag with the opening sealed with tape to keep the book/s dry. If sending internationally, package your book really well so it will reach the recipient in one piece. Brown wrapping paper or brown school envelopes is NOT recommended. Use sturdy mailing envelopes. Padded envelopes are the best.

  8. Keep the info on your Status Message short. This appears on the mooch page whenever someone mooches a book from you. Long status messages can be tiresome to read. Put additional info on your Bio page instead.

  9. Say a little something about yourself on your Bio section to make members comfortable with mooching from you.

  10. Develop a lengthy wish-list to reap full benefit.

  11. Don't expect other members to send abroad just because you do. It is against the rules to reject a mooch because the moocher sends only within his country. (This is where the BM Angel Network comes in!)

  12. If you have to take a break from BookMooch-ing, do indicate it on your Status Message. That way, should someone mooch from you and you don't reply, they won't get frustrated with you and you won't get negative feedback. You may also "vacation" your account if you'll be gone for a while.

  13. Join the BM forum to be in the know! BM forums include: BookMooch Discussion, LibraryThing, Ning, BookMoochers Pilipinas on Shelfari

P.S. Not all of the books on my BookMooch wish list are for me. Some of the books are for the QC Public Library (it's easier to monitor the wish list hits over here than over at the QCPL's email address). Thanks for offering your available books to me and to the library!
