I have relocated back to the U.S., I will be shuttling between Billings, Montana and Portland OR for a while. So if you mooch a book, depending on where it is and where I am, I will let you know how long I think the delay will be and you can then decide if you want to go through with it.

Unfortunately, thanks to the political football we in the U.S. call the U.S. Postal Service (the service part is an oxymoron) I will no longer pay the ridiculous charges to send books overseas. Last year, a Priority Mail Pack, good to hold 2 or 3 PBs, was US$12.95. In January it went up to US$23.95. In most parts of the world, one can buy new PBs or used HCs cheaper. While this site is more than just a way to get books for a reasonable cost, US$8 to US$12 per used PB book is beyond reasonable. Methinks, I see a business opportunity here for someone far younger than myself, shipping books and other heavy weight items via surface and then re-distributing them at various points using local postal services or couriers.

I feel sad about this development since I made some Bookmooch Friends around the world by shipping them books from Hong Kong which is still civilized enough to handle surface shipping at a reasonable cost. Reminds me of the song, "Those Were the Days".

Bio:
I am a retired management consultant back in the U.S. after living in Hong Kong for 20 years. Before that, I lived in both Southern and Northern California as well as The Philippines and Saudi Arabia. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduated from UW, Madison, and moved to California in 1962. I also have an MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of Santa Clara.

Whatever "expertise" I claim to have actually consists of years of conscious experience, overwhelming curiosity, discerning observation and friends whose opinions I trust.

One of my pet peeves is "credentialism", a disease found anywhere people value degrees and certificates more than experience. Also found wherever a professional group wants to limit competition or someone is afraid to just let their behavior and competence speak for themselves.

I have been traveling and living overseas for over 35 years. I believe the experiences I've had and the people I've met have given me a wider perspective and I think made me a more interesting person than I would have been otherwise.
