I like science fiction of the Neal Stephenson & Iain M. Banks variety, nonfiction such as Freakonomics & A People's History of the United States, "literary" fiction such as that of Barbara Kingsolver, Russell Banks, and Thomas Sanchez, books set in Florida or Japan, light doses of thoughtful historical fiction, and the occasional work of progressive political nonfiction.
