The beautiful woman called The Rowan was the most powerful telepath on all the planets of the Alliance - until the birth of her daughter, Damia. Damia and her husband, Afra Lyon, were the most extraordinary team of telepaths the Alliance had ever seen - until the powers of their children began to emerge.
Now the combined power of all these generations, especially the unique abilities of the younger Lyon clan, is needed to face once and for all the threat of the alien Hivers. The human worlds see themselves as peaceful, and traditionally they have used deadly force only in self-defense, but now the time has come to take the battle with the Hivers out into space. A fleet of starships, with the powerful Lyon clan as its leaders, is sent into Hiver territory. Their mission: seek and destroy the Hiver threat that is lurking at the edges of known space.

Jo Miller (USA: CO) (2007/02/27): It was Ok. It was a bit exciting in parts, but McCaffrey fell back into fixing everyone up with a compatiable mate. I was actually surprised that she killed off a couple of the cute and fuzzy aliens (and it was one of the cute and fuzzy aliens that killed them) very violently. But lo and behold, she managed to bring them back to life. Then life went back to "Happy go lucky, every thing is great" style of characters. There is no human angst or anything like that. I get the impression that McCaffrey is a very old fashioned lady. Although, I have a hard time with some of the romance age differences. She always has one romance in her books where one of the couples that hook up, that have a HUGE age difference. Like old enough to be their parent. OK... perhaps she's trying to signify that age shouldn't matter (and I don't in most cases feel it matters). But it's also a sign of sexual abuse. So I wonder if the author was abused as a child??? Ok, enough of my meandering. Not a bad read, but this series will not top my best read of the year.
